Our Installation Method: No-Mess, No-Dig™

Our No-Mess, No-Dig installation method uses pounded galvanized steel posts instead of traditional hole digging and concrete.

What This Installation Method Delivers

Minimal Site
Cleanup

Installation leaves little to no displaced soil, reducing post-installation cleanup for property owners.

Longer Fence Service Life

Galvanized steel posts resist corrosion, and the driven-post installation reduces prolonged moisture exposure to fence materials that can rot or decay.

Shorter Installation Time

The installation process requires less excavation and fewer on-site steps, allowing projects to be completed more efficiently.

Increased Structural Stability

Posts are driven deeper into the ground and reinforced with galvanized steel at ground level, improving overall fence strength and resistance to movement.

Simplified Future Repairs

Modular fence assembly allows individual components to be repaired or replaced without disturbing the entire fence line.

Handles Challenging Ground Conditions

Driven-post installation allows fencing to be installed in frozen ground and other hard surfaces where traditional digging is impractical.

How the Fence Installation Process Works

A to Z Quality Fencing follows a clear, guided process to move projects from estimate to installation.

Start with an Instant Estimate

Most projects begin with our Instant Estimate tool, which allows you to create a preliminary fence layout and receive an estimated price range online. Customers may also call our office directly to begin the process.

Office Review & Consultation Scheduling

After your estimate is submitted, our office reviews the details and contacts you to answer questions and schedule an on-site design consultation.

On-Site Design Consultation

During the on-site consultation, fence materials, layout, style, and any changes to the initial estimate are reviewed and refined. Site conditions, requirements, and preferences are confirmed before moving forward.

Final Quote, Financing, and Contract

Once the design is finalized, a final quote is provided. Financing options may be discussed at this stage if needed. The project moves forward after the contract is signed and a 50% deposit is received to secure materials and your place in the installation schedule.

Pre-Installation Checklist

After the contract is signed, our office reviews every project detail with you — layout, style, color, height, permit requirements, and utility locate rules — to make sure everything is confirmed before scheduling begins.

Project Preparation & Fabrication

Once the checklist is complete, our team coordinates surveys, permits, utility marking, and material fabrication. Most materials are custom-prepared through A to Z Fence Supplies to support our No-Mess, No-Dig™ installation method.

Fence Installation

Once utilities are marked and materials are ready, your fence is installed. Most residential projects are completed in one day using our No-Mess, No-Dig™ method, which leaves no concrete mess or dirt piles behind. Once installation is complete, we review the project with you to ensure everything meets expectations and answer any final questions.

Choosing the right materials and a proven installation approach helps ensure your fence holds up year after year.

Frequently Asked Questions

We Hear You: Common Questions About Our Fencing Services

Fence pricing depends on materials, height, and the total length of your project — and it shifts with material availability and seasonality. The most accurate way to get a number is to use our free online estimate tool, which generates a real price range for your specific project in under 10 minutes. If you want to dig into what drives fencing costs before you get started, our blog breaks it down in detail.

No. A to Z offers several ways to structure payment depending on your situation. For customers paying directly, we require a 50% deposit at signing to secure materials and schedule your installation, with the balance due at time of installation. We also offer financing options — including in-house payment plans and third-party financing through Flexxbuy — with terms ranging from 90 days interest-free to multi-year loan options. Requirements and tradeoffs vary by plan. Visit our financing page for the full breakdown, or contact our office if you want to talk through which option fits your project.

The fastest way to get a price range is our free online estimate tool — it takes under 10 minutes. You’ll enter your property address, outline your fence on an aerial view of your property, and select your design preferences: height, materials, gates, and more. You’ll get an instant estimate at the end. If you want a deeper walkthrough before you start, our blog covers the process in detail.

A few ways. Start with our free online estimate tool — it walks you through materials, styles, and design options for your specific property. If you want to see options in person before deciding, we have showrooms in Hartford, WI and Farmington, MN. Once you complete an estimate, one of our Fenceperts will reach out to schedule an on-site consultation to walk the property and finalize the right fence for your situation.

Yes. We offer industry-leading warranties on both materials and installation craftsmanship, with terms that vary by fence type. Visit our warranties page for the full details.

It depends on your service level. With Gold Medal and Silver Medal service, A to Z pulls all permits and manages code compliance on your behalf. With Bronze Medal service, the customer handles permitting. Service level also determines how property lines are established before installation, which matters more than most customers realize. A fence built on the wrong property line typically has to come out at the homeowner’s expense. Visit our service levels page to learn about the options and what each covers.

No. A to Z contacts the utility marking service before your installation date — locating public lines is part of how we protect our installation schedule and keep your project on track. Those services mark public utilities only. Private lines — sprinkler systems, pool lines, low-voltage lighting, downspouts — are your responsibility as the property owner. You’ll need to mark those before our crew arrives.

.

For most projects, installation is scheduled 3-8 weeks from contract signing and receipt of your deposit. That window accounts for material ordering, fabrication, permitting, and any pre-installation steps specific to your service level. We coordinate those steps in parallel where possible so they don’t stack up and extend your timeline. Our process page walks through each step in detail so you know exactly what’s happening between signing and installation day.

Most residential fence installations are completed in a single day. Larger or more complex projects may take two to three days. We use a no-dig installation process, which keeps the job site clean and allows us to work efficiently. Our crew walks you through the finished installation before closing out the project.

A to Z offers three service levels — Gold Medal, Silver Medal, and Bronze Medal — that determine who handles the property survey, permitting, and code compliance for your project. The main difference comes down to liability: who is responsible if the fence ends up on the wrong property line. Gold Medal service is the most comprehensive — A to Z coordinates a licensed survey, pulls all permits, and assumes full liability for placement. Silver Medal uses survey documents you provide. Bronze Medal puts survey and permitting responsibility entirely with the customer. The service level is selected during your on-site consultation. Visit our service levels page for the full breakdown.

We serve residential customers within approximately 40 miles of our two locations — Hartford, WI and Farmington, MN. Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis. For commercial projects, our travel crews extend that reach significantly, including nationwide installations. Contact our office if you’re unsure whether your location falls within our service area.

Yes. A to Z Quality Fencing carries General Liability and Workers’ Compensation insurance for all work we perform. This protects you as a homeowner if there’s accidental property damage or a worker is injured on your property. Licensing requirements vary by state and project type — we stay current with requirements in both Wisconsin and Minnesota and can provide documentation if your municipality, HOA, or permit office requires it. Visit our licensing and insurance page for full details.

We install vinyl, aluminum, modern aluminum, cedar, chain link, and solar fencing. For residential customers, privacy fencing is our most common project, but we also install semi-privacy, picket, pool, pet, and custom configurations. Commercial installations are available as well.

No-Mess, No-Dig™ is the installation method A to Z developed and uses on every fence we install. Instead of digging post holes and setting posts in concrete, we drive galvanized steel posts directly into the ground. Those posts are then covered with vinyl, aluminum, or cedar post sleeves to create a clean, finished appearance. The result is a stronger foundation — steel at ground level is more resistant to shifting and damage than concrete-set posts — with no dirt piles, no landscape disruption, and no waiting for concrete to cure. Most installations are completed in a single day.

No. A to Z Quality Fencing is a family-owned business with two locations — Hartford, WI and Farmington, MN. Family members are actively involved in both. We’ve chosen to stay independent because it lets us maintain the quality standards, expertise, and customer focus that a franchise model tends to dilute. Every project is managed by people who have been in the fencing business for 30 years and have a direct stake in the outcome.

A Fencepert™ is an A to Z Quality Fencing professional who combines installation expertise with the ability to assess your property, guide material and design decisions, and manage your project from consultation through completion. The term is ours — it reflects a higher standard than a typical fence installer. When a Fencepert conducts your onsite consultation, they’re evaluating your specific property conditions, not just taking measurements.

Yes. A to Z installs fences year-round, including in frozen ground. Our No-Mess, No-Dig™ method drives galvanized steel posts directly into the ground, working in cold and frozen conditions where traditional concrete-set installations can’t. Winter installation also has practical advantages: scheduling is faster, crews have more availability, and projects often come in at the lower end of the estimated price range. If you’ve been waiting until spring, you don’t need to.
