Licensed & Insured for Your Protection
Licensing rules vary by location, but proper insurance should never.
Insurance Comes First
Why Insurance Protects You
A to Z Quality Fencing carries Workers’ Compensation and General Liability coverage for the work we perform.
Fence installation involves equipment, excavation, and active job sites. While our crews work carefully and professionally, construction carries inherent risk. Insurance exists to protect homeowners if something unexpected happens.
What That Means For You
Worker's Compensation
Protects homeowners if a worker is injured while working on your property.
General Liability
Helps cover accidental property damage connected to the project.
If a contractor is not properly insured, homeowners can become entangled in medical claims, repair costs, or legal disputes. A lower upfront price can quickly become a larger financial risk.
Professional Standards & Safety
A to Z performs large, governed commercial installations that require rigorous safety protocols and PPE compliance. Those same professional standards guide our residential work.
We are continually refining internal safety procedures to reduce risk, protect our crews, and safeguard the properties we work on.
Proof of Insurance
For security reasons, we do not publish Certificates of Insurance publicly.
We provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI) upon request for permitting, HOA requirements, or customer verification.
Fence Licensing & Insurance by State
Select your state to see how requirements apply to your project.
Licensing
Minnesota treats fencing as a single-specialty trade under guidance from the Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry. A general residential contractor license is typically required when a contractor offers multiple trades. For fence-only work, a general contractor license is generally not required or issued.
If a project involves broader commercial construction beyond fencing, different licensing requirements may apply. As our commercial capabilities expand, customers will be notified if licensing status changes.
If a municipality requests licensing documentation, we provide a clear explanation of Minnesota’s single-specialty rules and any supporting documentation required by that jurisdiction.
Insurance
All A to Z crews working in Minnesota carry Workers’ Compensation and General Liability insurance for the work we perform.
Proof of insurance is available upon request for permitting or verification.
Permits
Fence permit requirements vary by city and county. When a permit is required, we guide customers through the process and provide any documentation the municipality requests.
Licensing
Wisconsin fence projects that require permits often require contractor credentials.
State Credentials (Renewed Annually)
A to Z Quality Fencing maintains and renews the required Wisconsin Dwelling Contractor (DC) and Dwelling Contractor Qualifier (DCQ) credentials through the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS). These credentials are commonly requested during permitting.
Local Credentials
Some municipalities require additional licensing or registration.
City of Sheboygan: Requires contractors to hold a city license/certification for fence installation.
City of Milwaukee / Milwaukee County: Requires a Home Improvement Contractors License to pull permits for qualifying work.
Insurance
All A to Z crews working in Wisconsin carry Workers’ Compensation and General Liability insurance.
Certificates of Insurance and credential verification are provided upon request when required for permitting or customer review.
Permits
Permit requirements vary by municipality. When documentation is requested, we provide it promptly and coordinate submission if needed.

Fence Licensing and Insurance FAQs
Do I need a contractor’s license to install a fence?
It depends on your state and municipality. Minnesota and Wisconsin handle contractor credentials differently, and some cities add local requirements. If documentation is required, we’ll provide the credentials and verification that apply to your project.
Are you insured?
Yes. All A to Z crews carry Workers’ Compensation and General Liability insurance for the work we perform.
Will you post insurance certificates on your website?
No. For security reasons, we do not publish insurance certificates publicly. Proof is available upon request.
What if my permit office asks for proof of licensing or insurance?
Contact our main office or reply to your quote email. Let us know what the municipality is requesting and how it needs to be submitted.
Do permit and credential rules really vary by city?
Yes. Requirements can vary by city and county, even within the same state.
Can I request proof in advance for my permit application?
Yes. Contact the main office or reply to your quote email with the project address and municipality.
If another company is cheaper, what should I ask them?
Ask for proof of Workers’ Compensation and General Liability coverage. If they can’t provide it, that’s a risk worth understanding before hiring.
Who should I contact with licensing or insurance questions?
Contact the A to Z Quality Fencing main office or reply to your quote email. Fence licensing and insurance questions are routed internally to the appropriate team member.
