Working with A to Z

Your Service Options

Before your fence goes in, one decision shapes the entire project.
Who handles the property line?

A fence built on the wrong property line doesn’t just create a neighbor dispute — in most cases, it has to come out. That means removal costs, reinstallation costs, and a project timeline that multiplies. Most fence companies leave that risk entirely with the homeowner. We give you a choice with our fence service levels.

Three fence service levels. One clear decision.

Gold Medal

A to Z Handles Everything
Lowest customer liability, A to Z assumes property line and compliance liability

Silver Medal

Shared Responsibility
Custom assumes property line liability, A to Z assumes compliance liability

Bronze Medal

Customer Manages Survey and Compliance
Most economical, highest liability

Why the Survey Matters

A current, licensed survey is the only reliable way to know  where your property ends and your neighbor’s begins. Older surveys can be inaccurate.  Assumed property lines based on existing landscaping or prior fencing are frequently wrong. And when they’re wrong, the consequences don’t fall on the installer — they fall on the homeowner.

Gold Medal service is the only fence service level at which A to Z coordinates a licensed survey directly, pays for it upfront, and takes responsibility for placement based on the results. The cost is included in your project quote.

A note on Bronze Medal service: At any fence service level, our installation team will flag layout concerns if something appears inconsistent with what they observe on-site. That said, at Bronze Medal level, we’re working from information we haven’t verified — so the window to catch errors before installation is narrower. If you have any doubt about your property line, Gold Medal is the right choice.

When do I Select My Fence Service Level?

Service level is selected at your on-site design consultation, which starts with an instant estimate. If you have questions about which level is right for your project before you get started, our office can help.

Service Level FAQs

No. With Gold Medal service, A to Z coordinates and pays for the licensed survey upfront. The cost is included in your project quote with no separate line item or surprise charge after the fact.

You do. The survey belongs to you as the property owner and becomes part of your permanent property records. That’s a practical benefit beyond the fence itself. A current, licensed survey has long-term value if you ever sell, subdivide, or do additional work on your property.

In most cases, no. We work with survey partners who can typically complete the survey while your materials are being fabricated, so the two processes run in parallel rather than in sequence. During busy season, there may be some additional lead time, but we’ll communicate that clearly upfront so you know exactly where your project stands.

There’s no hard cutoff, but older surveys carry more risk. Property lines can shift over time due to legal descriptions, prior errors, or easement changes. Our team will review your documents and flag any concerns before installation begins. The accuracy of the survey and any resulting liability remains with you under Silver Medal service.

It depends on your fence service level. Under Gold Medal service, A to Z assumes responsibility for property line placement based on the licensed survey we coordinate. If something is off, that’s our problem to resolve. Under Silver Medal and Bronze Medal service, responsibility for the property line rests with the customer. In most cases, a fence built on the wrong line has to be removed and reinstalled at the property owner’s expense. That’s the risk we’re helping you understand and, with Gold Medal service, eliminate.

Both Wisconsin and Minnesota require property surveys to be conducted by a licensed professional land surveyor. Learn more from the Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors.

Potentially, but it depends on where your project is in the process. If survey coordination has already begun under Gold Medal service, or permits are already pulled, changes may not be possible without affecting your timeline or cost. The best time to finalize your service level is at the on-site consultation, before the contract is signed.

The service level is selected during your on-site design consultation. That consultation starts with an instant estimate, which you can complete online in a few minutes. If you’re unsure which level best fits your situation before you get started, our office can help you think it through.
